Industry insider Tom Henderson predicted Sony would launch a handheld console in 2023. However, it was slated be closer to the Logitech G Cloud/Razer Edge than the Steam Deck/ROG Ally. Sony has now officially acknowledged the existence of the said handheld, aka "Project Q". Sony makes it abundantly clear it cannot run games natively by stating, "Games must be installed on PS5 console and excludes VR games".
However, the announcement was a tad light on details, other than the fact that Project Q will come with an 8-inch screen FHD (likely 1,920 x 1,080) screen that can play games at 60 FPS. Unlike conventional handhelds, Project Q's controller is shaped like a DualSense, complete with a gap underneath the thumbsticks. It even has haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. Whether or not it will be detachable or work with other devices remains to be seen.
Sony also launched a pair of TWS earbuds alongside Project Q (also hinted at by an earlier leak) and revealed even fewer details about it. The company claims it will bring "next-generation audio immersion to PS5 and PC". One can't help but wonder how exactly that'll work because the PS5 doesn't natively support Bluetooth audio, effectively forcing users to get a proprietary Bluetooth adaptor like the Pulse 3D. Smartphone connectivity is also advertised. Unfortunately, there is no word about how much it will cost or when it will hit shelves. Sony promises to reveal more "later this year".
