Apple to announce a $3K virtual

During Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday, CEO Tim Cook is expected to announce the company's first-ever mixed-reality headset, reports say.
However, don't get excited yet, as the headset is expected to be pricey.
According to a report from Bloomberg, the company's new headset will be sold under the name "Reality" and cost nearly $3,000. The headset is expected to operate on a new xrOS operating system.
While fans of Apple get excited about any new product, many are still wondering if the company's attempt at selling virtual reality will fall flat like many of the previous headsets that have come before.
Not much is known about Apple's headset, but the report says it is believed to have a "ski goggle" style design, an "outward facing display" to show the facial expressions of users, and also requires a separate battery pack.
The report goes on to say that Apple sees people wearing the headsets to "parties in the physical world, interacting with people through the external device."
However, not everyone is on board with the headset, as former Apple marketing executive Michael Gartenberg shared with Bloomberg that it might be "one of the great tech flops of all time."
This comes as many in the tech world remain fixated on the hefty $3,000 price tag, with competitors in the VR headset market rarely breaking $1,000.
The top competitors of Apple in this marketplace would be Sony and Meta.
Recently, Meta debuted its Quest 3 headset for $500, while the PS VR 2 is currently being sold for $550.
Meta has released pricier versions of its headset, with the Meta Quest Pro selling for $1,500, but consumers have not been as kind about its pricing, which is still half of what Apple is reported to be pricing its headset at.
